From $71,662.06 to $146,462.22.
A man who got hit with a sudden and massive surge in Tesla Solar Roof prices has recently filed a class-action lawsuit against the company. More than double the original price, the customer accused the EV company of manipulating its prices. Thus, the reason why he and other Tesla customers filed the said lawsuit.
After months of court trial, Tesla has finally decided to lift the price hikes and maintain its original prices.
Tesla Solar Roof Prices
Aside from its popular electric vehicle models, Tesla also introduced offering solar power to its customers. Through the installation of Tesla Solar Roof, the company claimed that customers can “pay less for electricity.”
On its website, Tesla said that its services would get customers at the “lowest price per watt.” Unfortunately, though it sounds like a great offer, several of its buyers faced issues with its purchase.
As reported via the Business Insider, in June 2020, a Solar Roof buyer named Matthew Amans signed up to get the item. Finally, in March 2021, he made an agreement with Tesla to buy its product for $71,662.06.
The following month after that, the installation of the Solar Roofs was not yet accomplished. In the same month, Amans reportedly received another bill from Tesla saying he still owed about $75,000 for the said solar panels.
Turns out, Tesla surged the prices of the Solar Roof.
Price Hike Stops
To Amans surprise, he was not the only one who received the additional payment for his order. Other customers who reportedly signed the contract but not yet installed the solar panels, also received their own copy of the additional bill.
On Thursday, Sept. 15, Amans and others said that Tesla lawyers already answered back about the allegations. To solve the issue, the company is reportedly willing to halt all price increase in Solar Roof.
The filing says: “Counsel for Tesla informed counsel for Plaintiffs that Tesla had recently launched a program for customers who signed Solar Roof contracts before the April 2021 price changes to return those customers to their original pricing (if they were subject to a price increase in April 2021).”
Not the first time
As reported via CNBC, this was not the first time this year had to raise the prices of Solar Roof. It was said that the company already made changes in prices twice in a year now.
There was also a time when Tesla suggests their customers buy its Powerwall home energy storage system to save more electricity. However, at the same time, Tesla owner Elon Musk also made an announcement that the company is facing a shortage in producing the said item.
In April, Musk also clarified the sudden price surged in the solar roofs. He said in Business Insider that “significant mistakes” in the assessment of the products.
He explained that not every household has the same style of roof. Thus, making it difficult for them to estimate the real prices of each Solar Roof.
As of now, Tesla has not yet announced anything on its page about the new prices of Solar Roof.
