Tesla Solar Roofs is now the only one with the referral program.
If you have been using your unlimited Tesla car referrals before, here is a piece of bad news for you. Turns out, Tesla company will now stop all customers from receiving anything on its referral program. As first reported via Electrek, the main reason for the said announcement is “cost concerns.”
Sorry, no more referrals for now
Before Tesla became famous for producing electric vehicles, its first customers were the ones who promoted the said brand. By ‘word of mouth,’ Elon Musk’s EV company is now at its pedestal of car brands.
One thing that also makes it different from other companies is its customer referral program. However, started on Saturday, Sept. 18, the said program was no longer available for Tesla car customers.
As said, Electrek was the first one to notice the changes on Tesla’s website. It now says there that “As of September 18, 2021, vehicle products, and solar panels are no longer eligible for Referral awards.”
There was no direct explanation on why the company decided to halt its customer-friendly program. After all, the EV company has not been a fan of advertisements or strict marketing, unlike other car manufacturers.
However, according to a different report from Electrek in 2019, Tesla owner Musk already told the public about its plans to halt the program.
Before this announcement, Tesla initially gave away dozens of new Roadsters for all customers who had been referring Tesla to other people.
But, due to “cost concerns,” the company decided to end the free Roadsters. Instead, they aimed to give away free 1,000 Supercharging miles for customers interested to earn on the referral program.
Now, all those freebies have now ended.
On the other hand…
Although Tesla cars are no longer accepting referrals, the company still gave a little bit of leeway on the program. Instead of cars, customers who have bought its Solar Roof are now eligible to earn referral rewards. Aside from that, they could also get $500 more than the original offer.
“At this time, orders for Solar Roof are eligible for the Referral Program. To earn Referral awards, Solar Roof orders must be placed through your unique referral link. Note that referrals cannot be added after an order is placed, and awards are granted after the Solar Roof system receives permission to operate on the grid from your utility.”
Tesla Solar Roof issues
If you think Tesla has already faced massive issues, controversies on its Solar Roof are just starting.
As reported via Tech Visibility, customers of the said solar panels are now suing the company for alleged manipulation of prices. In the report, one man bought the said Solar Roof in June of last year.
In March 2021, the customer already agreed with Tesla to pay over $70,000. But next month after that, the said prices had gone up again— equivalent to over $75,000.
Worse, the Tesla Solar Roof has not yet been installed in his home.
