Twitter suspended former Pres. Donald Trump’s account after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Do you still remember when former Pres. Donald Trump regularly posts his opinion on social media pages, specifically Twitter? If you have not yet heard, the president, at the time, was blocked by Twitter to tweet anything. His page was suspended for quite some time now over the recent controversy of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.

Now, Trump wants to file charges against Twitter, and its CEO, Jack Dorsey.

Trump has never been a fan of social media companies. In his last term, the then-president vocally expressed his opinion against social media companies, especially the most popular ones like Facebook and Twitter. He believed that those companies purposely censor anyone that is not aligned with what they believed in.

Now, the former president wants to challenge Twitter and its CEO, Dorsey to court trials. On Jan. 8, as reported via The Guardian, Trump received a letter from Twitter saying that he got suspended from using the platform.

That means his over 89 million followers on Twitter would no longer receive tweets from the then-president. Of course, Trump was furious.

Now, the issue between the two parties stirs up again.

Turns out, former President Trump recently filed charges against Twitter and other social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. As reported via The Verge, Trump filed the said charges in a Florida court.

He claimed in the filed document that Twitter is violating his First Amendment right to speech. Now, he wanted the court to sue Twitter and other social media platforms and regain his account.

Twitter is ‘coerced by the Congress’

As explained by Trump, Twitter was allegedly “coerced by members of the United States Congress” to suspend his account.

The complaint further stated that the social media platform “exercises a degree of power and control over political discourse in this country that is immeasurable, historically unprecedented, and profoundly dangerous to open democratic debate.” Thus, Trump wanted to regain a temporary reinstatement to Twitter until he continues to effort for his permanent stay on the platform.

As of now, Twitter has not yet released any statement about the issue and filed case.

Why Twitter banned Trump?

As said, Twitter banned Trump’s account from their platform after the happenings in the Capitol riot. As explained, Twitter alleged that the attackers in the said incident were Trump supporters that want to breach the elections.

To not induce any further unrest, the social media platform decided to remove Trump’s account. Facebook and YouTube also did the same thing, with Facebook banning account until 2023, and YouTube with the indefinite decision.

Why Florida?

Former Pres. Trump filing in Florida is not a coincidence. In May, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill preventing social media platforms from “deplatforming politicians” in the state.

“This will lead to more speech, not less speech,” DeSantis said during a press conference at the Florida International University in Miami Monday. “Because speech that’s inconvenient to the narrative will be protected.”

Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with the new Florida bill saying that it is “clearly unconstitutional.”
