Not only will the Galaxy S22 series’ design be unlike anything we’ve seen on a Samsung phone before, especially in the camera department, but its specifications are also set to break multiple records, including Samsung’s own.
With the Apple iPhone 13 now available and the Google Pixel 6 on the horizon, all eyes will be on Samsung for the release of the Galaxy S22 series of phones – and a new leak provides more evidence of the Ultra model’s upcoming redesign.
The P-shaped rear camera module that we’ve seen in previous leaks, as well as the flat design for the top and bottom of the phone, are visible on a dummy unit of the Galaxy S22 Ultra revealed by Italian outlet CoverPigtou and tipster @xleaks7.
It has a distinct Galaxy Note look to it, as we noted previously when we saw some unofficial renders of the same device. Remember that the Galaxy Note 21 was never released, and the S22 Ultra is widely expected to replace the Note in 2022.
The existing S22 Ultra specifications include a 6.8″ 1440p display, Snapdragon 898/Exynos 2200 engine, 108MP main camera, and 5000mAh battery.
Enough room for the S Pen
The Galaxy S22 Ultra will, according to the same source who revealed this dummy unit, have an integrated slot for the S Pen. The stylus was supported by the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but it required a special case to carry it with the phone.
There’s nothing new here: the volume and power buttons are on the right-hand edge of the handset as you look at it, as you’d expect, with the left-hand side devoid of any buttons or ports.
We’ve also seen unofficial case renders from a reliable source that show the Galaxy S22 Ultra sporting the same design as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, lending credence to the notion that this model will be significantly different from the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus.
Samsung’s plans for 2022 are revealed
There has been a lot of speculation about Samsung’s smartphone plans for 2022, from when the devices will actually be released to whether or not the premium Galaxy Note series will make a dramatic comeback to the market.
As more leaks emerge, it appears that the Galaxy Note 22 will make an appearance in the form of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It remains to be seen whether Samsung gives it the Note moniker to confirm the switch, but it appears to be on the cards.
We’ve now seen this Note-style design with the P-shaped camera from multiple sources, which means it’s more reliable than a single rumor. It’s possible that Samsung has come to the conclusion that three S series phones is too many, especially as the pandemic’s effects continue to be felt.
However, there are still a lot of things we don’t know. The Galaxy S22 phones were supposed to be released in January, but that’s no longer the case; the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be the phone to arrive in January instead.
