Now, Brave has finally gotten away with Google.
Brave, one of the most known privacy-focused browsers, is now saying goodbye to Google as its default search engine. This means all users of the said browser will no longer have to use Google to search for information online.
Unfortunately, the function is just updated on selected parts of the world. Here’s how to make Brave Search your default search engine on Brave.
Brave and Google
In a very surprising turn of events, Brave has finally let go of Google as its default search engine on the website. All Brave users from Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States will have the automatic launch of Brave search on their devices.
“Today’s Brave desktop browser update (version 1.31), as well as the Brave Android app (version 1.31)* and the Brave iOS app (version 1.32) all automatically offer Brave Search as the default for new users in these five countries, with fully localized versions in non-English geographies. Brave users can easily choose a different search option if they prefer by managing their search engine settings. Brave Search is also available in any other browser at search.brave.com,” said the blog post.
Unfortunately, for Brave users outside those areas, you still need to change the settings before accessing the software as the default engine. To do so, here’s what you need to know:
- Go to the three-dotted lines on the upper right side of your browser
- Select Settings
- Head to the Privacy, Search, and Services
- Go to Manage Search Engines
- Find the “search.brave.com” and click the three-dotted line beside it
- Choose make default on the drop down menu
- Once done, you must see the logo of Brave on your device
As mentioned in a report from MacRumors, Brave will not force its users to opt-in to its search engine. That means, if you do not like Brave as your search engine, you could still change it— with the same instructions above.
Still, Brave expressed its desire for users to try out their search engine first.
“Brave Search has grown significantly since its release last June, with nearly 80 million queries per month. Our users are pleased with the comprehensive privacy solution that Brave Search provides against Big Tech by being integrated into our browser,” said Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave. “As we know from experience in many browsers, the default setting is crucial for adoption, and Brave Search has reached the quality and critical mass needed to become our default search option, and to offer our users a seamless privacy-by-default online experience.”
What Is Brave Browser?
Brave Browser is now one of the leading internet browsers in the world. As told on their official website, the software already has over 30 million users in the past years.
Meanwhile, more than 12 million are active users of the browser. So, what makes Brave different from the rest of the more popular browsers? Its privacy.
Based on reviews, Brave browser is one of the most secured internet software in the world. As we all know, Google has been criticized due to its advertisements and third-party connections with data.
