While Apple has built-in certain protections to discourage unwanted tracking and recently added more in an update, it’s still possible for someone to slip an AirTag into your bag or car without your consent and track your location.
This is what happened to a woman living in Jonesboro, Arkansas. In an exclusive interview with her, the Apple consumer confirmed that she discovered an unknown AirTag insider in her car. What makes this alarming is that the small tracking device is not attached to anything at all.
Because of this, the authorities confirmed that the Apple AirTag was indeed used in a malicious tracking activity. It’s a good thing that the woman was not harmed. However, it seems like the owner of the tracking device is still roaming around.
How the Apple User Caught the Stalker
The woman explained that she was about to go on a trip before she discovered the unusual AirTag insider her vehicle. She said that she was about to listen to her iPhone when she heard that the AirTag notification on her smartphone.
The Apple consumer explained that she “was on my way to work, and I went to hook my phone up to listen to music, and then it popped up. And as soon as it got eye level, I jumped because it was taped right here.” She added that the AirTag was located at the back of her vehicle, near the license plate light.
On the other hand, the police department quickly went to the Apple victim to see if she was okay and if the owner of the AirTag is still near her area. However, the authorities were not able to catch the stalker. This is why they are now urging people to take the AirTag notifications more seriously since they could indicate that criminals are near their area.
As of the moment, the giant gadget manufacturer explained that the best thing consumers can do when they detect an AirTag is to contact the nearest police department so that they would be protected if there are really stalkers or other criminals planning to do bad deeds against them.
If ever your beloved iPhone detects an unknown AirTag, the first thing you need to do is avoid panicking. Check if the manufacturer’s tracking device is attached to an item, such as a bag, a laptop, or other essential belongings. If this is the case, you can bring the item to the nearest police station so that the owner can find their missing belongings. However, if the AirTag is not attached to anything, then you need to stay alert since there’s a high chance that the tracking device is being used to spy on you.
