Last year, famous smartphone maker OnePlus collaborated with premium camera brand Hasselblad to provide its customers with a superior mobile photography experience.
Oppo has now announced a three-year collaboration with Hasselblad to “co-develop industry-leading camera technologies” for its flagship Find series phones.
In a statement, Oppo’s chief product officer, Pete Lau, said:
Following the success of OnePlus and Hasselblad’s collaboration in the past year, we are very pleased to see the partnership enter a new stage of development, giving more users around the world a chance to enjoy the legendary Hasselblad mobile imaging experience. Camera color performance has always been a focus for OPPO and a part of Hasselblad’s DNA. We are very excited to be able to explore the future of the Hasselblad Camera for Mobile together.
Given the numerous Find X5 Pro leaks that revealed the Hasselblad logo, this should come as no surprise. As with last year’s OnePlus 9 Pro, we don’t know if the collaboration will be limited to color calibration and design of the camera interface, or if we’ll get some additional Hasselblad image tuning.
A Hasselblad-branded triple-camera setup was recently revealed in real-world images of the upcoming Oppo Find X5 Pro. Since OnePlus and OPPO have merged their R&D resources to “maximize efficiency,” it’s no surprise that their flagships in 2022 will have a lot in common.
Oppo hopes that by partnering with Hasselblad, it will be able to set a “new benchmark for smartphone color science” and ensure that all of its phones have the same color performance.
For the main and ultrawide cameras, the Find X5 is expected to use a Sony IMX766 – a 50MP, 1/1.56″ sensor with 1.0m pixels, while the telephoto camera will use a 13MP sensor with 5x optical zoom. The MariSilicon X NPU chip developed by Oppo will also be used to handle image processing and the omni-directional autofocus system.
An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is said to power the Oppo Find X5 Pro. A Snapdragon 888 SoC and a MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC are said to power the Oppo Find X5 5G and Oppo Find X5 Lite 5G, respectively.
There will be a triple rear camera setup on all three phones in the lineup, according to reports. According to previous leaks, the Oppo Find X5 5G will have a 4,800mAh li-ion polymer battery with wireless charging and support for 80W fast charging.
The 5,000mAh battery in the Oppo Find X5 Pro is expected to support both wired and wireless charging, as well as 80W fast charging. The 4,500mAh li-ion polymer battery in the Oppo Find X5 Lite 5G is said to have a fast charging capability of 65W.
The upcoming Find X5 series, according to Oppo, will be the first to offer the “Hasselblad Camera for Mobile” experience. The Find X series, which will compete with Samsung’s best Android phones, will be announced later this quarter.
With the use of Natural Color Calibration, the Oppo-Hasselblad collaboration will focus on advanced imaging solutions, specifically in the color science department, to bring about more natural colors. In the portrait mode, this will also apply to natural skin tones.
