Samsung is the reigning king of the foldable smartphone market, with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 being the most popular bendable phone last year, but had a negative note in the form of poor battery life.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is still the best compact foldable phone on the market, despite being nearly nine months old. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 was a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with a four-fold larger external display, improved durability, IPX8 water resistance, and a more affordable price tag.
However, as much as we like the Galaxy Z Flip 3, it has one flaw in comparison to other phones: its battery life. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 had a 3,300mAh battery, and while it had good screen on time (SoT) numbers when used lightly to moderately, it struggled to last the entire day when used heavily. Nonetheless, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 appears to be a step forward.
Finally, bigger battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 will reportedly have a larger battery, according to a report from a news source. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 (model number SM-F721) will have two batteries, one of which will be a “sub” battery and the other will be the “main” battery, according to the report.
Despite the fact that it’s a “sub” battery, it’s the larger of the two, with a capacity of 2,400mAh. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s sub battery is 100mAh larger.
Meanwhile, the main battery’s capacity is 903mAh, which is the same as last year. The combined capacity of the two batteries will be 3,300mAh or 3,400mAh “typical” advertised capacity. All in all, we’re looking at a 100mAh increase in battery capacity over the Galaxy Z Flip 3 — 3,200mAh (rated) or 3,300mAh (typical).
There’s no word yet on whether the device will be able to charge at speeds higher than 15W. The majority of other specifications are also left vague. The Flip 4 may have the same design as the Flip 3, which means it will have a 6.7-inch inner screen and a 1.9-inch cover screen.

Furthermore, battery capacity isn’t the only factor that influences battery life. The processor is also important, and according to a reliable source, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, which will be built on a more advanced node than the chip that powers the Flip 3, making the device theoretically more power efficient.
The phone could be less expensive than the Flip 3, which starts at $999, thanks in part to a contentious battery supplier. It’ll probably be released in August alongside the Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Watch 5, which, according to a new report, will be missing the thermometer feature.
While, as previously stated, this is only a minor upgrade, it is one to anticipate. Last year, Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip 3 was a best-seller, accounting for the majority of the company’s foldable sales. It’s reasonable to assume that the same will be true this year, with improved battery life prompting some to upgrade to the newer model.
