The Chromecast with Google TV is a fantastic invention, but it is definitely exhibiting issues as it ages. One issue is that the Chromecast hasn’t received an actual system upgrade in nearly six months, which is why Google’s recent tweet feels so teasing.
A reliable tweet source stated today proudly that “new update for Chromecast with Google TV has arrived.” What is Android 12? Profiles?

Instead, Google is announcing a new feature for Assistant on the Chromecast with Google TV, allowing users to ask Google Assistant to show their Watchlist, one of Google TV’s tentpoles. It’s unclear whether this capability is exclusive to the Chromecast, as it appears to be something that could easily operate on other Google TV-enabled streaming devices or televisions. To be honest, it’s a little surprised that this didn’t already exist.
With the new feature, you’ll be able to create a unique profile for everyone in your household. This works just like the profiles feature in streaming services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, wherein you can create a different users for different people. This allows them to enjoy their own personalized space and get video recommendations based on their watch history (and other interests) rather than a watch history that everyone shares. There are a number of other benefits of profiles on Google TV:

- Personalized Suggestions
- Personal watchlist
- Google Assistant Customization
As you watch video on your Google TV, the firm learns more about your interests, preferences, streaming service subscriptions, and so on. It then recommends TV series and movies based on a variety of characteristics. These recommendations get more personalized with profiles because Google will be able to offer content based on your unique likes and dislikes rather than the entire family.
Google’s Watchlist is a fantastic feature that allows you to save the things you wish to watch in a simple and easy-to-access format. The watchlist feature becomes more personalized with profiles. Each Google TV profile has its own watchlist that is independent from the rest of your household’s lists – you won’t have to navigate through the entire watchlist to find the show you added to it.
Whereas a user profile is linked to a specific Google account, Google Assistant is also personalized, which means you’ll obtain the answers you’re looking for. For example, if you ask the Google Assistant on your TV to “show me my day,” it will only provide results for that exact profile.
But whatever case, it’s strange to see Google advertising such a tiny feature in this manner, especially when there are far more important things to be thrilled about today. Google announced this morning that Profiles are finally available after a six-month delay. We recently discovered Google testing a new device for screensaver content recommendations, which was also intended to be released this winter. And, of course, there are the significant system changes we’ve been missing all along. Android TV 12 has been out for a while, and Android 13 is already in testing.
