Google’s attempt to release its first-ever foldable phone appears to be cursed, as it has been delayed for the second time. Last year, we heard speculations about a possible “Pixel Fold,” but the rumors rapidly went down, with insiders suggesting that Google had scrapped the project.
We heard something positive a few months ago — Google‘s long-awaited foldable phone would be released this year. Now we’re hearing from reputable sources that the project has been postponed.
According to a rumor from November of last year, Google’s foldable device will not be released until the second half of 2022, as evidenced by the cancellation of parts for the device. According to the DSCC investigation, Google did not believe the product was competitive enough.

A source in the Korean news outlet The Elec reports that Google had intended to release the device in the fourth quarter of last year. Since then, the company has twice postponed the foldable.
According to the report, the “Pixel Fold” failed to fulfill Google’s standards, which caused the delay. We had previously heard that it wasn’t up to par with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and would be postponed until 2022.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has confirmed that Google has once again delayed the product. Young, on the other hand, is hearing from his trusted supply chain sources that Google is planning to unveil its much-anticipated foldable device in the spring of 2023. Jon Prosser, the infamous leaker, argues the same thing.

Meanwhile, Young has speculated on why Google has delayed the product. He feels that “certain software advancements” or “a new chipset” are to blame for the delay.
The Pixel Fold was expected to employ Samsung Display panels with a main internal display of 7.57 inches and an external secondary display of 5.78 inches, both using Samsung’s UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) construction.
The phone is likely to have a design similar to the Oppo Find N, with a small exterior display and a large, wide interior display. The outside display will be a 5.78-inch panel with a 7.57-inch inside display made of ultra-thin glass. The device will feature a Tensor chip, as we previously reported, though this latest delay suggests that at least the second-generation Tensor CPU will be used. We also discovered indications that the device will feature a camera array similar to the Pixel 6a.
Furthermore, Google never said whether or not a Pixel foldable will be released, and it never said when it would be released — all previous launch dates were based on rumors and guesswork. According to recent sources, Google is willing to wait until their product is ready to compete with other foldables from big OEMs.
Now that Google is working on the highly anticipated Pixel Watch and Pixel 7, it becomes even less probable that the folding phone will be revealed at its Pixel event this autumn.
