If you commute or work in a noisy environment, you’re probably looking for the best noise-canceling headphones available.
Active noise-canceling (ANC) technology, which has become one of the most sought-after features that is no longer limited to high-end headphones, drowns out all that background noise. Here is a list for various lifestyles and budgets.
Sony’s flagship headphones have become the industry standard, forcing others to catch up. The QN1 processor and a dual-noise sensor work together to block out ambient sound, which is what makes them so good.
The WH-10000XM5 has eight microphones, making it suitable for a daily commute on a bus or train, walking down a busy street, or sitting on a plane.
It may not appear to be significantly different from its predecessors, but that’s simply because Sony has stuck to a design and comfort that most people find comfortable.
ANC takes advantage of this by providing excellent passive isolation and the ability to pair with two devices at the same time.
You can, for example, listen to music on one device while taking calls on another. Sony’s Precise Voice Pickup and Speak to Chat features optimize sound and volume during conversations, making phone calls sound better.
They can last up to 30 hours on a single charge, with fast charging available if they run out. However, whether wired or wireless, you can’t listen to the WH-1000XM5 while they’re charging.
Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700
Bose improves sound quality by reducing treble sibilance to make it less piercing, while leaving the rest of the sound signature unchanged. Needless to say, the sound quality of the NCH 700 is excellent.
It also helps that the ANC’s performance is so strong. They don’t quite match Sony’s performance, but they’re a good alternative for blocking out most persistent noises, such as engines, as well as some mid-range sounds, such as people talking.
Any pair of ANC headphones will struggle with higher-pitched sounds, and the NCH 700 are no exception. You do, however, get up to 11 ANC steps, making this one of the most versatile ANC experiences available.
One of the most comfortable pairs to wear is the NCH 700. Because the headband and ear cups are softer, you may not even notice how long you’ve been wearing them.
Battery life is above average, lasting up to 20 hours per charge. A quick 15-minute USB-C fast charge will provide up to two hours of playback, ensuring you can listen to music in a pinch.
Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless
A large soundstage aids in delivering the brand’s distinct definition. To balance it all out, the bass is slightly boosted, with a clear midrange and silky treble.
It’s versatile enough to accommodate almost any musical genre, with instruments, vocals, and electronic elements all sounding right at home.
The company’s audio fidelity does not always match the most advanced ANC performance, and this contrast is visible here to some extent.
That’s not to say the ANC here is bad: it blocks out a good amount of low-frequency noise, but it struggles to completely block out all sounds. You can avoid this by playing music a little louder, but only within reason, so your ears are not damaged.
