Finding The Right App Is Essential To Staying Productive

If you search for “to do app” in the Play Store on your phone, you’ll find an endless list of possibilities. Some come from indie developers who created an app that satisfies their needs when none existed.

Others are from large studios that are owned by even larger corporations, all with the same goal in mind — to keep you productive.

The issue with all of these options is that you may not know where to start. We’re going to try to help you find the right app for the job to commemorate World Productivity Day.

Determine the problem

However, before you can begin working, you must first determine what you want to achieve. Do you want an app that simply allows you to create an endless list of tasks with checkboxes next to them? Do you want to make lists for various aspects of your life, such as work, home, and other?

What about collaboration or project management? Are you working on a variety of projects, each of which requires the completion of a series of smaller steps? Do you need to be able to share lists or tasks with others in order to complete a project on time, whether it’s a chore list with the family or a coworker?

The great thing about the Play Store, especially when it comes to productivity apps, is that there is something for everyone. It’s critical to ask yourself these questions in order to get the most out of whatever app you choose.

Once you’ve decided what you want to achieve, it’s time to put your foot down and start experimenting with different apps and services.

Test drive

Over the years, we’ve looked at a variety of to-do list apps and project management tools. This includes going outside of the Play Store, as there are even more apps available in the Open Source app world.

Without going into too much detail, here are a few great options for various needs.

Google Tasks

A great place to start for anyone, with deep integration with Android phones, smart speakers, and other devices. It’s possible to create subtasks, set reminders, add notes, and create different lists, but it’s not ideal for project management.

Google Keep

It offers a unique perspective on note-taking and to-do lists. Keep is essentially a collection of “sticky notes” with the ability to color-code, add reminders, and assign sub-tasks all from a single note.

Todoist

Provides an all-in-one solution that is compatible with multiple platforms. You can start with a blank slate and turn the app into a productivity powerhouse with shared lists and collaboration features.

Trello

Uses the Kanban method, which allows projects to be moved from one list to the next as they are completed. However, additional features such as Power-ups allow for greater customization of the various projects/cards.

Asana

With plenty of flexibility and excellent collaboration, it’s ideal for true project management. However, it may be too much for a standard to-do list.
