Google Collections: A Feature Similar To Pinterest

Google is known to be a dominant tech service that offers various apps and software that make the lives of many much easier. Google Drive, Google Search, Google Assistant, and Gmail are just some of these services. This article will focus on one service of Google that may not be familiar to many: Google Collections.

Google Collections is one of Google’s features that is largely similar to the service Pinterest where users can pin their interests. However, as opposed to Pinterest, Google Collections is founded on the company’s own search engine, as stated by 9to6Google.

This feature is actually not new today. It was launched back in 2018. It is a service that allows Google users to save and create collections of their search results. These results could include locations, bookmarks, images, and the like. As mentioned, such results could be saved and organized into sets known as Collections, which are largely similar to Pinterest boards. Users can then go back to these Collections when they want to view the saved items at another time.

In the year 2020, Google gave out suggestions about certain items that could be included in the Collections based on search history in the tech giant’s search engine. This was done because several users tend to forget to save supposed web pages. When they fail to do so, it could be a challenge for them to retrieve such web pages once more. They would have to browse through their history in order to find them.

Being a leader in the tech industry, Google firmly holds that AI could help expedite this process. With this, users can make their own collections which will make finding and saving necessary web pages easier.

How to use Google Collections

After users check out a certain page on Google Search through the mobile app or through the web browser, the search service will automatically organize pages that are relevant to what users searched for.

Users will then receive a prompt from the site to save these pages into Google Collections in order for users to conveniently and quickly access such pages when they need to. To check the saved items in Google Collections, users would need to go to the Collections tab and look for the Collections option.

Other than this, when a Collection is made and available, Google will also present other similar items including websites and images. It could be an avenue for users to access more pages.

If users opt to not use Google Collections, the feature can easily be disabled as well. Users can proceed to the Settings to disable it. Unless this is done, the feature is automatically enabled.

The feature was seemingly launched in order to keep users within the platform and stop them from going to other websites to organize and save web pages, photos, or other things that catch their interest. Other than that, the Google Collections service also works conveniently when it comes to online shopping. With this feature available, users can be more convinced to stay within Google’s own platform instead of turning to other pages.
