Producer of the next God of War Ragnarok, Cory Barlog, has once more pleaded with fans to be patient while they wait for word of a release date.

In response to hysterical rumors and requests for updates on the much anticipated sequel, Barlog made the remarks.

“Dear all, if it were up to me I would share all the information when I know about it. But it is not up to me. so please, be patient. I promise things will be shared at the earliest possible moment they can be. We make games for you. We get to make games because of you.”

Though there hasn’t been any official word from the game’s creator, Sony Santa Monica Studio, God of War: Ragnarök has been trending on Twitter for the past week. Although the rumor’s origin is unknown, producer Cory Barlog has replied to the rising discussion and pleaded with people to calm down and “please be patient” whilst waiting for news.

Barlog has previously shown to be a master at remaining composed and realistic in the face of repeated requests and demands, thus this is a normal reserved reaction from them. The launch date was previously expected to be disclosed by Sony at this month’s State of Play conference. Then, it was said that the date would be made public last, June 30. Barlog’s remarks, however, suggest that we are likely still some time away from learning the illusive release date for God of War Ragnarok.

The sequel to the award-winning and highly regarded 2018 film God of War, God of War Ragnarok, is presently under production at Sony Santa Monica. The old warrior Kratos and his son Atreus will return in the new sequel as they journey through the nine realms in an effort to stop Ragnarok, a catastrophic event that would wipe out the Norse gods and much of humanity.

An industry insider and journalist took to some forums to confirm that Sony had planned on announcing the God of War Ragnarok release date last June 30. This would have also allowed PlayStation fans to finally pre-order the highly-anticipated game, presumably along with its leaked Collector’s and Jotnar Editions. However, Sony reportedly made the decision to delay the God of War Ragnarok release date announcement for unknown reasons. Schreier speculates that it could have been due to the Supreme Court’s controversial decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Even though this is merely conjecture, it makes a lot of sense when one considers Sony’s history of delaying projects in response to significant political and historical events. As some people may remember, after the death of George Floyd and the worldwide Black Lives Matter riots that followed, Sony postponed the PlayStation 5 unveiling. Since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade also sparked protests, perhaps Sony wished to hold off on highlighting God of War Ragnarok until a less turbulent week. For PlayStation platforms, God of War Ragnarok is presently under development.
