Apple’s AirPods are one of its most popular items. Every year, millions of people across the world buy Apple AirPods because they have exceptional sound quality and are easy to pair with other Apple products.
While Apple just announced the AirPods (3rd Generation) as the successor to the original AirPods (1st and 2nd Generation), the AirPods Pro hasn’t been updated in quite some time.
With all the multiple reports pouring from multiple sources suggesting that the Cupertino-based tech giant will release a new AirPods Pro model this year.
Just last month, sources reported that the AirPods Pro 2 would be able to detect body temperature and heart rate in the ear. The “AirPods Pro” 2 would include USB-C, an upgraded H1 processor, and “Find My” capabilities, according to the same claim. It will be interesting to see if the report’s other claims turn out to be true.
Remember that Apple debuted the AirPods Pro in 2019. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple sold approximately 90 million pieces of its fully wireless earphones over the 2021 holiday season. It is not only a testimonial to the product’s appeal, but it is also why Apple would want to add additional models to the roster. Recently, information about the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) has leaked online.
Health sensors are continuously changing and making their way into a variety of items ranging from smartphones to smartwatches and, more recently, wireless earphones. As per a report, Apple is likely testing both health sensors internally on AirPods prototypes, but neither feature is ready for commercial versions in 2022.
Heart-rate detecting technology on earbuds is already available; genuinely wireless earphones that can measure users’ heart rates include AmazFit PowerBuds and Jabra Elite Sports Earbuds. Furthermore, the rumor claims that the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) would not include a body temperature sensor.
Other than a new MagSafe charging case last fall, Apple has not updated the AirPods Pro since its launch in 2019. Apple is widely expected to release a new version of the AirPods Pro later this year, probably around the time the iPhone 14 and new Apple Watch models are released this fall.
Another rumor on a new feature?
It’s worth noting that the article also claims the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) would be able to assess users’ body temperature and heart rate. Depending on how the body temperature and heart rate sensors function, it might open up a whole new world of health-related capabilities. The gadget is also rumored to have hearing aid capability, allowing users to wear the AirPods as a hearing aid.
The rumor mills surrounding the new features won’t rest anytime soon and new ones might emerge again like this one. We’ll just have to see the real deal when the Airpods do come out in the market.
