The OnePlus 10T is just out of the oven and contains a lot of components that make it a decent flagship at a fair price. The alert slider, however, is absent.

You may have heard the news by this point. The distinctive feature that OnePlus has had on almost all of its high-end phones over the previous few years, the Alert Slider, is absent from the OnePlus 10T. Although it’s no longer available on this device, OnePlus insists that the feature isn’t yet finished.
Since the Alert Slider initially debuted on the OnePlus Two, the OnePlus 10T is the first flagship-level smartphone from the company to go without it.
Users may swiftly choose between ring, vibrate, and quiet modes with the help of the well-liked physical three-position switch, which has been a feature on flagship OnePlus phones since the OnePlus One and is included on the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus Nord 2T for 2022. A similar switch, which has just two places, is only present on Apple’s iPhones.
The Alert Slider provides customers with a tactile switch that enables easy switching between the silent, vibrate, and ringer models without ever turning on the display. It requires some getting used to, but overall it’s a lovely feature.
Why did this most recent update remove the Alert Slider?
According to OnePlus, the Alert Slider was eliminated to free up space and that it was a “necessary trade-off” for “new, meaningful technologies” A new antenna array and a 125W-150W fast charging mechanism with a little bigger battery are those things.
If the slider had remained in place, the OnePlus 10T’s battery capacity would have been 4,500 mAh rather than 4,800 mAh, or the device would have been made thicker.
The decision as to whether these compromises were beneficial rests with the user, but the good news is that OnePlus is still working on the feature.

As time goes on, OnePlus claims it will “overcome this technical” obstacle to keep the Alert Slider in upcoming smartphones. It’s important to remember that this is merely OnePlus announcing that it aims to accomplish that; it is not a certainty that future OnePlus devices will bring the slider back.
Our product team plans to overcome this technical and design challenge in future devices so we can deliver improved technologies while retaining our signature alert slider. While the OnePlus 10T does not have the alert slider, this does not mean it will be removed from all future OnePlus devices.
While OnePlus’ claims are undoubtedly true in many ways, it’s also interesting to consider how the OnePlus 10 Pro actually operated. The size of what appears to be the Alert Slider’s actual component in a deconstruction of that device is relatively modest. The component, according to OnePlus, measures 30mm2.
