A function that you would least expect to be missing from foldables, or any other smartphone, may not be present in the much-anticipated Google Pixel Fold.
Rumors have said that the Pixel Fold won’t include a selfie camera built into its inner display. According to Google, a foldable gadget will debut in the fourth quarter of 2021. Ross Young, Jon Prosser, and the Korean website source have all made similar predictions. Obviously, it didn’t happen, as the Pixel 6 series launch passed without any foldable devices.
However, this didn’t happen, and subsequent leaks from both and display industry expert Ross Young pointed to a launch with the flagship Pixel 7 in October. Some had anticipated to see it appear at Google’s I/O developer conference in May.
According to another reliable source, the Pixel Fold will resemble the Oppo Find N in appearance, thus we can anticipate a smaller internal tablet display and a shorter exterior display than the Z Fold 3. However, the inner/tablet display on the Pixel Fold is rumored to lack any form of selfie camera, unlike the Find N and Fold 3.
Even if Google is still creating the Pixel Fold and there is no firm release date in sight, the absence of an inside camera seems like an odd design choice. Foldables are ideal for working on the fly in a world where many people are still conducting business remotely, including participating in Microsoft Teams or Zoom calls.
Your virtual meetings will have to be conducted from the smaller cover display if there isn’t a camera on the inner Pixel Fold display. Although the selfie camera on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may appear to be missing, it is really thinly hidden beneath the screen display on the right side.
The Pixel Fold’s lack of an internal camera may make it difficult for users to take selfies and make video calls when the phone is folded out, if they choose to do so. With the camera on the exterior display, they could still carry out those actions.
A unique mode in the Google Camera app that prompts users to turn their phone around and take a selfie while it’s still unfurled may also provide some more assistance. For some individuals, that might not be a deal-breaker, but considering how well-suited foldables are as tools for creativity and productivity, removing the internal camera seems like a really strange decision.
Of course, this is just a rumor at this point. It’s possible that the Pixel Fold won’t come equipped with an inside camera. And since the exact date of its publication is still uncertain, nobody can say with certainty when it will be. There is no concrete information on a release date because Google hasn’t even announced that a foldable device would be released.
