Parler’s app has undergone significant changes in order to abide by Google’s rules after it was banned from Google Play Store for quite some time.
The Google Play Store now offers access to arler, the app mostly used by conservatives, Donald Trump fans, and far-right extremists. After the US Capitol uprising, Parler, which marketed itself as a “free speech network,” was banned and taken off the Android app store in January [2021].
When the removal happened, a Google representative claimed that it was because the app lacked moderation controls and enforcement that eliminate severe content like messages that promote violence.
“As we’ve long stated, apps are able to appear on Google Play provided they comply with Play’s developer policies. All apps on Google Play that feature user generated content (UGC) are required to implement robust moderation practices that prohibit objectionable content, provide an in-app system for reporting objectionable UGC, take action against that UGC where appropriate, and remove or block abusive users who violate the app’s terms of use and/or user policy.”

According to certain media sources, the apps’ creators put standards in place to control material and delete messages that incite violence, making it compatible with Google’s guidelines. People could still download Parler from the company’s website and use it even after it was suspended and removed from the Android app store.
Sam Lipoff, the chief technology officer at Parler, stated that they have worked aggressively to construct a more feature-rich and dynamic user experience since leaving Google Play.
After altering its AI-based moderation mechanism to hide information it classifies as “hate,” Parler was returned to the iOS app market in May of this year. Donald Trump’s “Truth Social” has been accessible on the iOS app store since February, but it hasn’t yet been made available on Android. According to reports, Google has not yet approved the app due to worries about its standards violations and insufficient moderation rules. But It was also mentioned that the business is currently working “in good faith with Google” to get it back on the Play Store.
After making changes to better detect and control hate speech, Apple approved Parler’s return to the App Store in April. “Now is a perfect time to join Parler and rediscover the non-partisan platform where we enable people to speak freely,” Lipoff wrote in a post.
To be more specific, following the January 6 riots at the US Capitol, Parler, a Facebook and Twitter alternative that positions itself as a haven for free speech, was taken down from major tech platforms. Parler was removed from Amazon Web Services, which was hosting the company’s product, Apple, Google, and all of their app marketplaces.
